Being a gun dog, I suppose it was only natural for Trixie to love the outdoors. Sometimes people would ask me if I hunted with her… we didn’t. Knowing her love for the outdoors, though, I did try to get her out as much as possible.
As a pup and adolescent Trixie had so much energy and she loved running and other physical activity. Just a little over a block away there was an open area where she could run and a small stream where she would sometimes explore. If there were no people or other dogs around I would let her run off leash. She usually stayed close and rarely wanted into the adjoining street. We liked going down there often when we took walks.
Other times we’d have to load up in the car and find a park or open area where she had lots of room to run. There was a dog park a couple miles away, but we didn’t like going there because it was pretty boring.
One place we liked going to was Edgemoor Park only minutes away by car. There she could wander off to explore the area… sometimes just out of sight. When I called her… she’d come running back.
